PBX Phones

PBX phones are an ideal way to leverage existing phone lines in your business by creating a private branch exchange (PBX) network.

Since you are already familiar with the features you are using on your current phone system, a transition to PBX should in theory be smoother than trying to integrate a whole new system and learning new processes.

Another advantage of this option is that your existing equipment may already be able to cope with such a network. This will obviously save you money but also please your employees who will be able to avoid the training associated with yet another piece of new technology in the workplace.

Having said that, many employees may relish the chance to learn something new and indeed some will find the PBX system quite intuitive and dare I say enjoyable to operate after a certain period of time.

Important features of PBX Phones

  1. Ensure that the system you choose has a large, bright LCD screen. In the old days you used to wonder if you had entered the correct number because there was no record of the buttons that you had pressed. Aside from this, an LCD interface automatically enables you to have such things ascaller ID and a more intuitive and navigable main menu.
  2. Speed dialing and speaker phone - you would think that the majority of phone systems would come with these features but the simple fact of the matter is they are often overlooked and left out. Speed dialing negates the necessity and inconvenience of having to memorize phone numbers and a good speaker system enables other workers to sit in on a call. It also increases productivity by allowing you to multi-task by not having to hold the phone while you talk and work.
  3. Look for a unit that will not lock you into a particular protocol or vendor. For example, the web standard for a VoIP system is SIP and there really is no reason why you wouldn’t want to use it.
  4. Be weary of any manufacture that tries to lock you into their own proprietary system because if their company ever folds or their hardware suffers a major failure you may be left out in the cold as far as upgrades or repairs are concerned.

As with any process of selecting the right fit for your business, it is best practice to request quotes from individual PBX phones suppliers in order to get the best deal.

They may also be able to answer any questions that you may have regarding certain terminology or technology.

Hopefully by now this has given you a good place to start on your search for the best PBX Phones system for your business.

Although the initial cost of such a system may be higher than some other systems offered on the market, there is the ability to save on costly installation fees because in most cases, PBX systems are totally incorporated into the existing system with little or no fuss.
